Goals and Methods
PURPOSE: The Federation [Gold] Cup Plan offers additional incentive to ALL entrants in the Junior Festivals Program. Cups are awarded on a point system based on Junior Festival ratings. Participation is OPTIONAL.
ELIGIBILITY: Any participant entering an Event listed in the JUNIOR FESTIVAL BULLETIN is eligible to enter the Federation Cup Program
POINT SYSTEM: Points based on Junior Festival ratings are:
- SUPERIOR 5 POINTS
- EXCELLENT 4 POINTS
- SATISFACTORY 3 POINTS
- FAIR 2 POINTS
- NEEDS IMPROVEMENT 1 POINT
WITH THE EXCEPTION of Senior Concerto or Sonata/Concerto events as follows:
- SUPERIOR 8 POINTS
- EXCELLENT 7 POINTS
- SATISFACTORY 5 POINTS
- FAIR 3 POINTS
- NEEDS IMPROVEMENT 1 POINT
ACCUMULATION OF POINTS: When a total of 15 points has been earned, the first Federation Cup is awarded. For each 15 additional points, the next Cup is earned. See Schedule below:
- FIRST CUP 15 POINTS
- SECOND CUP 30 POINTS
- THIRD CUP 45 POINTS
- FOURTH CUP 60 POINTS
- GRAND CUP 75 POINTS
- PRESIDENT’S CUP 90 POINTS
ALL POINTS COUNTED TOWARD A FEDERATION CUP MUST BE EARNED IN THE SAME EVENT, WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS: Beginning with grade 9 prior points earned in instrumental solo events and advanced solo events (DI and above) may be combined with points earned in Senior Concerto or Sonata/Concerto events. When these points are combined, all points earned in both events in a given year must be totaled and listed only as SOLO POINTS. THERE CAN BE NO COMBINING OF ANY POINTS BEFORE GRADE 9.
Entrants who have previously participated in a solo event may alternate with Junior or Senior Concerto or Sonata/Concerto events for accumulation of points toward a Cup in the Solo Event.
Once used as Solo points, these transferred points may not be used to acquire a Concerto or Sonato/Concerto Cup.
Vocal Solo and Musical Theater points may be combined beginning in Grade 9.
Entrants may work simultaneously toward a Cup in more than one event in any year, so long as the required fees are paid for each event.
All Concerto points—Junior and/or Senior—which have not been used as Solo points should be combined for credit toward cups in Concerto, since Junior and Senior Concertos are different levels of the same event.
In ensemble events, points are awarded separately to each performer who has paid the required fee for that event—Piano Duet points cannot be added to Piano Trio Points.
ORDERING FEDERATION [GOLD] CUPS: Only the State Federation Cup Chairman is authorized to order cups from National Federated Music Clubs Headquarters.
Grand Gold Cups cannot be processed at Headquarters without the approval of the National Federation Cup Chairman.
ABSENCE DOES NOT AFFECT FEDERATION CUP POINTS: Cup points earned before an absence should be kept on file to be credited when the Junior returns to the Festivals. Previous state certificates or rating sheets may be used to substantiate points earned. HOWEVER, ABSENCE DOES AFFECT NATIONAL CONSECUTIVE-YEAR SUPERIOR CERTIFICATES.
FEES: To support this program, fees for each participant must be paid in addition to the Festival Entry Fee. A fee must be paid for each event entered at the same time the Festival fees are paid.
The Federation [Gold] Cup Fee is $5.00 for each event entered.
RETROACTIVE POINTS: When a Federation Cup participant moves to a new teacher or place of residence, the parents are responsible for notifying the proper officials.
Upon request from the proper official, complete records of the Junior should be sent as early as possible by the appropriate Cup Chairman.
Any fees paid by the moving Junior toward the cup for which he or she is working will be transferred to the appropriate State Federation Cup Official.
